Introduction of Doctoral Education Program in Clinical Medicine and Life Sciences between Ningbo University and University of Burgundy Franche-Comté (UBFC)
1. Project Overview
The Doctoral Education Program in Clinical Medicine and Life Sciences between Ningbo University and University of Burgundy Franche-Comté (UBFC), France is a Sino-foreign cooperative program approved by the Ministry of Education (Approval No. MOE33FR1A20192031N). The Program employs a joint training model with dual supervisors and dual campuses both in China and France, and introduces high-quality medical education resources, with the aim of training high-level, internationalized clinical medicine doctoral students.
1.1 Partner Universities
The University of Franche-Comté, Burgundy, France (//www.univ-fcomte.fr/, //www.u-bourgogne.fr/) is a multidisciplinary research university community integrating seven higher education research institutions in the Franche-Comté region of Burgundy, France. Since 2016, the University of Burgundy Franche-Comté has been awarded the national program “Investing in the Future” in France, being a member of the “Initiative of Excellence”, i.e., Initiative-Science-Innovation-Territories-Economy (I-SITE). Franche-Comté University of Burgundy was ranked 501st in the 2019 Times World University Rankings and 22nd among French universities. As one of the most time-honored comprehensive national universities in France, Franche-Comté University of Burgundy consists of six doctoral schools, including the School of Medicine and Pharmacological Sciences, which has trained a large number of distinguished clinical medical professionals for France.
1.2 Degrees and Certificates
Students fulfilling the graduation criteria will be awarded a doctorate in clinical medicine (academic) from Ningbo University as well as a doctorate in life medicine from France, with the option of a French specialist training certificate (DFMS; French Proficiency: B2)
1.3 Number and Scope of Students
Number of Enrollment: Depending on the total number of students enrolled for the year, not exceeding 6 students
Recruiting Objects: New students admitted to Ningbo University for academic master’s degree in Clinical Medicine
1.4 Proposed Development Process
(i) Semesters 1-2, students take the courses of master’s program at Ningbo University.
(ii) Semesters 3 - 4, students take the courses of master’s program at UBFC.
(iii) Semesters 5-6, students take the courses of doctor’s program at UBFC.
(iv) Semesters 7-9, if the French language test of Level B2 has passed, students are given the option to participate in resident physician training (DFMS training) at a hospital affiliated to UBFC; if the French language of B2 has not been passed or if the student opts for scientific research training, the students will proceed with their doctoral project for project research.
(v) Semesters 10-12, students undertake their doctoral research at Ningbo University and defend their dissertation.
2. Fees
Tuition fees for doctoral students in clinical medicine at Ningbo University (the specific standard is based on the General Regulations on Admission of Ningbo University for Doctoral Students) as well as the registration fee of Franche-Comté University of Burgundy.
Students may apply for financial assistance at both the university and school levels, depending on the provisions of the related financial assistance documents of Ningbo University and the School of Medicine. The University of Burgundy Franche-Comté will grant scholarships for master's degree and doctoral degree students based on the actual situation of the year, or students may apply for scholarships for the International Cooperation Training Program for Innovative Talents by the Scholarship Council upon transfer to a doctoral degree.
Other expenses (personal living expenses, transportation costs, etc.) will be covered by the students.
